Libya: Disappearance of Mr Ali Al-Talhi after his removal by force from Switzerland

Alkarama for Human Rights has sent an urgent appeal to the Working Group on Enforced Disappearances asking it to intervene with the Libyan authorities about Mr Ali Al-Talhi who was arrested after his extradition from Switzerland in September 2007. Since his transfer to the Centre of Internal Security, nobody has been able to obtain information about him since December 10, 2007 despite his family actively searching for him.

Libya: The case of Abdeladim Benali submitted to The Human Rights Committee

On 30 May 2008, ALKARAMA for Human Rights and TRIAL (Track Impunity Always) jointly submitted an individual communication to the UN Human Rights Committee regarding the case of Mr. Abdelalim Benali, a victim of serious violations of human rights by the Libyan authorities.

Libya: Juma Aboufaied released after 15 months of secret detention

Juma Aboufaied was released Tuesday, May 27 2008, around noon. He returned to his home in Gheriane after leaving the notorious prison of Abu Slim. Juma has been detained incommunicado since his arrest on the eve of the planned peaceful demonstration on February 17, 2007 which was called for by his brother, Dr Idriss Aboufaied, defender of human rights, along with other Libyan reformist militants.

Libya: Reappearance of Abdussalam Il-Khwildy, missing since October 17, 2006

Abdussalam Il-Khwildy was arrested on October 17, 2004 and sentenced on 07 August 2006 to a term of two years' imprisonment. Whereas he should have been released from Abu Slim prison in Tripoli on October 17, 2006, he was actually transferred elsewhere and disappeared. His father was finally able to visit him on April 30, 2008 after a year and a half of disappearance. He remains however detained arbitrarily.

Alkarama just learned that Abdelsalam Ibrahim Mohammed who had been deported from Switzerland on 23 November 2007 and had since disappeared was released on 27 April 2008.
